Ibach, F-III, 7'1", 'model Richard Strauss' Semi-Concert Grand
PIANO:
Rud. Ibach Sohn, model F-III, 7'1" Semi Concert Grand & Artist
Bench, serial # 145.015
Finish:
Ebony Polish
Description:
Rud Ibach Sohn is the oldest piano company in the world still making
pianos since 1794. Rarer still, the company is in the hands of the
original family with the 7th generation involved and involved in all
stages of piano development and manufacture. Piano builder to
famous musicians like Richard Strauss, Richard Wagner, Ferruccio Busoni,
Arnold Schoenberg, Franz Liszt, Max Reger, Alban Berg and more, Brahms
preferred the sound of the Ibach for his piano concertos! A very
small output maker known for its innovation in design, Ibach was the
first company to make a 'Pianino' or in today's terms, the studio
upright 118cm (45" vertical piano). Another important historical fact is
that Ibach pioneered the practice of building train tracks to the back
of the factory to receive raw materials and ship out finished pianos --
the first factory of any kind to do this! This piano was
built in the Schwelm factory near Wuppertal in 1988 and was sent to my
store and sold to a fine pianist. F-III models are made in small
quantities of only 35 a year to maintain the high attention to detail
and quality. Soundboards are highly crowned Carpathian Spruce
sourced from the slow growth forests in Romania and have the longest
sustain (ring time) in the business. Carpathian Spruce, while
similar to Val de Fiemme Spruce from Italy, is actually more sensitive
and very expressive in tone. This piano has a highly polished
plate and features leather key bushings in the all Renner Action with
specially made Renner hammers. Ibach utilizes a wide tail design
and scale that creates a more 'orchestral bass' and a singing tone that
is huge all the way into the upper 6th octave! This particular
instrument has been used in concerts sparingly and has been the 'primo'
piano in a two piano concert with a 9' Steinway model D. The
concert pianist chose this piano as the first piano because it carried
and projected better than the Steinway -- due to its long sustain and
rich tone. This piano comes equipped with a Dampp-Chaser Humidity
Control System. One of the great pianos available in this country!
Very special item!

Steinway O Louis XV 5'10" Grand
PIANO:
Steinway model O, Louis XV 5'10" Grand & Matching Bench, serial #190934
Finish:
Hand-carved Figured English Mahogany in High Gloss Lacquer
Description:
This rare Louis XV
Steinway model O was reputedly owned by the famous composer, Rudolf Friml. Made in New York on November 21, 1918, this piano's original owner was Louis G. Myers, 102 Waverly Place, NYC. Assuming he
sold the piano to the famous Mr. Friml, operetta and movie composer;
this instrument was subsequently purchased by a very prominent
industrialist and his wife for their daughter in the mid-1950's at which
time the piano was refinished to its current look. Replete with
famous Steinway features like Diaphramatic Soundboard, Hexagrip Maple
Pinblock, and mid in the Golden Period of Steinway, this piano was
restrung and had new highly-prized pre-war hammers installed prior WWII
and before the current owner acquired it. This rare model has been
completely reconditioned to concert-level performance while retaining
the old-world sound and quality. This piano had very little
playing on the new hammers and is a truly beautifully sounding and
playing piano --a true musician's instrument! It is such a rare
item to retain the old sweet, singing Steinway tone of yesteryear and
have a bona-fide heirloom with supreme musicality, furniture and
provenance.
This piano
comes with a letter of provenance from Steinway & Sons and is truly one
of the most unique items we ever have had in our shop!

Steinway & Sons, model L 5'10 ½"
Grand
|
PIANO:
Steinway & Sons, model L, 5'10½"
Grand & Artist Bench, serial # 396191
Finish:
Ebonized Finish
Description:
From a fine musician who
loved this piano in Delmar, NY, this Steinway was hand-selected in
Steinway Hall in NYC. Made in New York, in early 1966,
this instrument was exceptionally well-maintained and the original
soundboard is immaculate. Replete with famous Steinway features
like Diaphramatic Soundboard, Hexagrip Maple Pinblock, Accelerated
Action with Permafree bushings, this piano was built to last
easily 100 years if well maintained. The piano is original and has
been completely refurbished to achieve concert-level performance.
The Ebonized finish has been hand-rubbed to its original sheen.
This piano has a beautiful tone and has a treble like the 9' Concert
Grand due to a modification I made to improve sustain! In June of
2000, Rand Reeves, noted rebuilder, installed Nu-tone English Hammers
and Tokiwa shanks and flanges. It is generally agreed that these
parts are superior to New York Steinway OEM parts. This
piano had very little playing on the new rebuilt action before its owner
passed away. This piano was selected by noted pianist, Findlay
Cockrell to use for a recording of the music of Chopin and he commented
on the tone and responsive action!

Steinway M 5'7"
Grand--1920
S O L D
|
PIANO:
Steinway & Sons, model M, 5’7”
Grand Piano & bench, serial # 204702
Finish:
Dark Mahogany Satin Finish.
Description:
Steinway is undoubtedly the piano that
all musicians aspire to and some are lucky to own. However, not all
Steinway’s are alike. The Steinway factory Golden Years of
manufacturing were from the turn of the century through 1929. Some
of their finest examples of musicality and craftsmanship were built
during these years. However, finding a piano from this era in truly
wonderful condition is very, very rare! This model M, 5’7” Grand was
manufactured in the Long Island City factory in November 1920 and is
a remarkable example of the high level of craftsmanship and tone.
Most pianos hope to sound and play as this piano does and usually
they do not. This piano was owned by a 91 year old man who recently
sold his house and had to part with his beloved piano as well. The
piano was well cared for and was tuned regularly though-out its
life. The soundboard is in immaculate condition and the hammers are
the famous pre-war Steinway hammers that created the tone favored by
Rachmaninoff, Rubenstein and Horowitz. They cannot be replaced for
love or money and to find a piano like this that was not ever played
heavily is unbelievable!

Steinway M 5'7"
Walnut Grand--1968
PIANO: Steinway & Sons,
model M, 5’7” Grand Piano & Bench, serial # 405762
Finish:
American Walnut in high-polished lacquer
Description:
Steinway is undoubtedly the piano that all musicians aspire to and
some are lucky to own. This Model M, 5'7" Grand was manufactured in
the Long Island City factory in February 1968 and is a remarkable
example of pianos from the era when CBS owned the company.
This piano was owned by a man, who has now passed. His
daughter sadly decided to part with his beloved piano as well. The
piano was well cared for and was tuned regularly throughout its
life. The soundboard is in immaculate condition although there
are typical Steinway pressure ridges due to Steinway soundboard
tension. The balance of the piano is in very good condition having
been played sporadically throughout its life. The cabinet has
seen more wear than the piano and the fallboard was obviously
refinished during its lifetime -- probably 20 years ago. This
piano is equipped with the Steinway Accelerated Permafree™
Action and is extremely
responsive. This piano has a huge tone and produces
sound more like its larger brother – the 5’ 10” model L. It is rare
to find a newer Steinway M in this kind of musical condition and
with such great power. |

Knabe 5'8" French
Provincial Grand
in Carved Black Walnut
S O L D
|
PIANO:
Knabe,
5’8” French Provincial Grand Piano & Bench, serial
# 108702
Finish:
Carved Black Walnut
Satin Finish.
Description:
Made by one of the most respected quality makers, Knabe was
the official piano of the Metropolitan Opera until the 1980's.
Favored by musicians and enthusiasts, Knabe was always the best
combination of beautiful workmanship, cabinetry and warm tone.
This piano is quite rare as it was fashioned of of now almost
extinct American Black Walnut and is hand-carved with flowers and
other details in the French Provinicial Style. Made in East
Rochester, NY in the Fall of 1931, this piano was originally
outfitted with an Ampico Reproducing Player System. The player
system was removed by the original owner and it was subsequently
purchased by a well-to-do lady in White Plains. Upon her
death, it was moved to her son's house in Upstate NY. In honor
of their mother, the piano was routinely tuned but not played.
Finally, it was decided to sell the piano. We opted to restore
this piano as it was in immaculate condition with hammers that could
not be replaced today. The ivory keys are in great condition
and the soundboard is pristine. We have chosen to refinish the
cabinet to restore its incredible case to new condition. This
is a rare and magnificent example of wood and craftsmanship of the
old days which is almost truly extinct today! Note the unique
insetting of the French leg into the rim. This is a museum
piece.

Mason & Hamlin 5’8"
Grand-1923
S O L D
|
PIANO: Mason &
Hamlin, model A, 5’8” Grand Piano & Bench, serial # 31835
Finish: Ebony
Satin Finish in rubbed lacquer.
Description:
Many musicians prefer the broad
singing tone of the Boston-built Mason & Hamlin over the Steinway
piano. This Grand Piano built in the famous Boston factory in 1923
and is the example of Mason & Hamlin’s Golden Age. After the factory
was moved in the late ’20’s, Mason & Hamlin lost a great degree of
its value due to increasingly poorer quality of execution. This
piano was kept by an older woman piano teacher -- who lived alone.
She adored the instrument and her 5 cats. When she died, her nephew
inherited the piano, kept it for his children and then finally
offered up for sale. The cabinet had been refinished 20+ years ago
and new key-tops were installed as well. She also installed heavy
custom made casters. We opted to accept the condition of the
cabinet, acceptable but noticeably used, and the condition of the
superstructure (soundboard, pinblock, strings, etc.) and chose to
recondition the action and reset tuning pins to insure tuning
stability. When we replaced the #4 bass string, we discovered that
the scale design of this model A is ‘heavier’ in the bass
specifications than most A’s of this period – resulting in a deeper
richer bass! The original hammers were resurfaced and voiced and the
action was reconditioned and regulated. This piano is truly a
musician’s piano and is larger in tone than any comparable Steinway.
We have chosen not to completely rebuild this piano to offer a truly
remarkable value price.

Yamaha G5, 6'6"
Professional
Grand
PIANO:
Yamaha G5 6'6" Professional Grand Piano & Bench, serial # 347061
Finish: Ebony
Polish Finish.
Description: Yamaha
Pianos, made in Japan, are very well designed instruments and are
internationally recognized as world class pianos of exceptional value.
This model was made for the professional market as a high quality
performance instrument. Designed to be a sweeter, more elegant
sounding model, this piano was built in the Hamamatsu factory in early
1982. This piano was purchased from a executive second home in
Atlanta. The piano was completely rebuilt in the Yamaha factory in
Hamamatsu. The owner took very good care of the piano and was too busy
to play it much. It is an uncommon value due to the fact virtually new and
in immaculate condition. This piano is built better than its newer
Yamaha cousins due to better materials and workmanship. Made to be
less bright and more traditional European sounds than newer Yamaha Grands,
this piano, after concert level regulation and German voicing, has surprised
all with its tone and performance reminiscent of a Bechstein large grand.
It is a very unusual and fine performance instrument that is totally elegant
in tone and like a fine racehorse!

Yamaha G3 serial

S O L D
Another Coming Soon!!
PIANO:
Yamaha, model
G3, 6'0" Professional Grand & Bench, serial # 3490622
Finish:
Ebony Polish
Description:
Yamaha Pianos, made in Japan, are very well designed instruments
and are internationally recognized as world class pianos of
exceptional value. This model was made for the professional market
as a high quality performance instrument. Built in the
Hamamatsu factory in the Spring of 1982, it was purchased later that
year by a dealer. Bought from the same dealer in Oregon who went
bankrupt, this piano was part of his large unused rental inventory.
It appears to be a Metropolitan Opera Loan Piano where Yamaha lends
instrument for a short period for promotional reasons. The
piano is in impeccable condition and appears to have been hardly
used. Having a huge tone, very even touch and sound, we only
had to regulate the action and voice the piano in the German manner
as it needed little else. This piano is built better than its
newer Yamaha cousins due to a less brighter and more traditional
European sound than the newer Yamaha Grands. Also, it is
unusual to find such a fine performance instrument that has not been
heavily used -- clearly an unusual value and pedigree!

Yamaha G1J 5'3" Grand
|
PIANO:
Yamaha, model G1J, 5’3” Grand & Duet Bench, serial # 2690102
Finish: Satin
Ebony Finish
Description:
Yamaha Pianos, made in Japan,
are very well designed instruments and present a very good value in today’s
market. This model was made for the home market as a quality 5’3” grand piano
for the average buyer. This piano was built in the Hamamatsu factory in mid
1978 and was purchased new at Clark Music in Latham, NY by an executive family.
The owner took very good care of the piano and purchased the piano for their
boys – neither of whom played much. It is an uncommon value due to the fact it
is virtually new and in immaculate condition. This piano is the well respected
‘J’ scale that is actually highly desired. This piano performs much like the
current C1 but has a depth and expression of a fine small German grand due to
the German voicing and concert regulation performed. The piano is built better
than its newer Yamaha cousins now manufactured in the factory in Indonesia.
Most used Japanese pianos available are ‘grey market’ instruments that are made
for the Pacific Rim market and not seasoned for North America. But this piano
is made for North America and its wood is seasoned for our climate – insuring
its durability. A rare find in this immaculate condition!!

Hardman French Provincial 5'
Grand
S O L D
PIANO:
Hardman,
5'0" Baby Grand & Bench, serial # 96360
Finish: French Provinical
Hand-Carved Walnut in high-gloss lacquer finish
Description:
This unique, museum piece piano was built in New York in
November/December 1936 and is a true example of the art of elaborate
furniture design. Hardman is a well known New York
manufacturer who specialized in fine quality grand pianos and high
styled vertical pianos for the finest homes in the East. Known
for their cabinet designs, art cases and special edition pianos,
this model is a limited production instrument that was designed for
the elegant executive New York City townhouse. Small in
stature but built like a tank, this piano is a gem to behold.
The instrument was rebuilt in Long Island in the 1980's with new
strings, new tuning pins, new dampers, shimmed and bleached
soundboard, new bridge caps, original action and hammers and
refinished cabinet and plate. This piano was a mother's
beloved instrument that was handed down to the daughter who is now
downsizing and must part with the family heirloom. It is very
rare and not likely to be seen again as most of the production is
still kept closely guarded by discriminating families or was
destroyed by poor maintenance and climate.

Steinway & Sons, 1098,
46" Studio Upright
PIANO:
Steinway & Sons, 1098, Studio Upright & Bench, serial # 4122681
Finish: Ebonized
Satin Finish.
Description: This
Steinway Studio Upright Piano , made in Spring of 1969, was caringly
maintained and has light use as it was a second piano in this exclusive,
executive home in Coxsackie, NY. The first piano was a Steinway model
D, 9' Concert Grand. The owner was quite meticulous and the home
is a designer showplace filled with rare antiques. Of course, nothing
need be said about this famous model which is in every well-known music
school and conservatory in the country. This piano plays better than
it did new as it has received a high performance regulation and German
voicing. Most pre-owned Steinway 1098's that come on the market are
usually worn too much to be of real value. It is rare to find one in
'like new' condition as this one and the richness of the tone of this 1098
Studio Upright is superb! RARE!

a special gift to his son and his family. Classic Player, founded by Ed Keefe
and his wife, built custom player pianos under their name and for Baldwin and
Wurlitzer. Using Baldwin back assemblies and actions, they built the rest of the
player pianos with the finest materials available. Ed, the perfectionist, was
unhappy with Baldwin’s quality in their back assemblies so, in 1992, began
building their own back assembly utilizing the famous Story & Clark studio
upright design. Improving the design
with agraffes in the bass for more clarity and heavier back construction, he
succeeded in creating a quality instrument.
This is the finest model they ever made with hand carved Griffon Legs in
Oak and lighted Stained Glass Panels.
This
piano is immaculate as Mr. Pierce, before he died, lovingly put in extra work
into the instrument to maximize its performance.
Hardly played, this piano is like new and is a rare, rare find!!!

NOTE: This piano comes with a box of 75 rolls and tracker bar pump and

value in today's market. This model was made for the home
market based on European desires for a high performance console.
Built in the Hamamatsu factory in the Spring of 1974, it was
purchased later that year by the owner. She took very good care of
the piano and did not play it much so she gave it to her married son
for his family. No one ever took up piano in the son's home so
the piano sat fallow. Not having been played much, the
piano has been just sitting in their living room until it was
recently sold to make room for new furniture. It is an
uncommon value due to the fact it is virtually new and in immaculate
condition. This piano is built better than its newer Yamaha

its wood specially seasoned for our climate--insuring its
durability. This is a high performance console that is highly
desired due to phenomenal tone and action for its size and original

Hardman 46" Classroom Studio
Upright
PIANO:
Hardman 46" Classroom Studio Upright, serial #
59060909658
Finish:
Dark Mahogany in Satin Lacquer
Description:
Hardman, Peck & Co. is a well known New York manufacturer who
specialized in fine quality grand pianos and high styled vertical pianos for
the finest homes in the East. Known for their cabinet designs, art
cases and special edition pianos, Hardman became part of the Aeolian Group
before World War II and ceased all operations in 1982. After years of
being fallow, the name was purchased by North American Music of Nanuet, NY
and they started producing a range of pianos made by the Dongbei Piano
Company of Northern China, These pianos are being marketed as 'value
pianos' to compete with all the other Chinese and Indonesian made products.
This piano has been untouched and unplayed since purchase in 2007 from
Performance Pianos. Due to a divorce, the piano was sold and we have
completely refurbished the piano, resolved some technical issues from the
factory and now can offer this fine value in a studio upright piano.
Significant German voicing and specific readjustment of both the stringing
and action relationships have yielded a much higher level of quality and
performance than is available from any new Hardman from any dealer in the

PIANO:
Young
Chang, E-101, 43.5” Cont. Console & Bench,
serial
# 1306550
Finish:
Dark Oak Polish Finish
Description:
Young
Chang is the premier Korean Piano Manufacturer that became the largest piano
manufacturer in the world in the 1990’s – surpassing even Yamaha!
Favored by other manufacturers to build contract pianos for them,
Young Chang has created their reputation based on their deep
understanding of European piano building and partnerships with famous makers
like Ibach and now Steinway.
Young Chang builds the Essex Piano for Steinway and this endorsement
should say enough about their quality of manufacture.
This piano was purchased new in mid-1988 from Clark Music but was
manufactured in March 1988.
It
is a successful example of Young Chang quality with hard rock maple pinblock,
bridges, and action parts, Royal George Felt Hammers, Solid Sitka Spruce
Soundboard and Roslau Strings.
It was purchased by a local husband for his wife who never played the
piano. . Current product from Young Chang is made in their Tianjin, China
factory as is of much lower quality of both materials and workmanship.
Young Chang suffered from the increase in costs and of the Korean
currency (won) and became as expensive as comparable Japanese models.
However, this piano is a wonderful find as in today’s market it is
impossible to find this type of quality for even double the price! |

Console Piano & Bench, serial # 195427
Finish: Sheraton
Mahogany in Satin Lacquer
Description:
Story & Clark is a well-known piano
