Knabe Console 140096.JPG
PIANO: Wm. Knabe & Co., 40.5" Console Piano & Bench, serial # 140096
Finish: French Provincial Figured Walnut in Satin Lacquer Finish.
Description: The official piano of the Metropolitan Opera for many years, Knabe was the piano often found in the finest homes in the country due to its musicality and fine cabinetry. This is a remarkable instrument, made in December 1947 in East Rochester, NY. Knabe, as other fine makers like Steinway & Sons and Sohmer, made elaborate furniture consoles for the finest homes in this country. This is a remarkable example of such design and craftsmanship with four gorgeous hand-carved legs and special selected figured walnut. Note the grand style fallboard and the pedal lyre as special design features in this exclusive model. It is in original condition and has great tone for its size and is truly an heirloom piano for the executive home. The owner was the 2nd owner having received it from his aunt who had the piano refinished in the 1980's. It was lightly used by his aunt and not used by him at all except as a prized piece of furniture. We have completely reconditioned the piano and restored it to its former glory! It is rare to find one of these heirloom pianos in restorable condition. One of our unique finds!!! |
