Kawai 6'8" KG5 Semi-Concert Gr…
|
PIANO: Kawai, model KG5C, 6’ 8” Professional Grand Piano & Artist Bench, serial # 1100019
Finish: Ebony Polish Finish
Kawai is one of the famous Japanese Piano builders who specialize in fine craftmanship and a warm rich tone in their pianos. Favored by conservatories and teachers around the world, Kawai has created their reputation based on their deep understanding of European piano building and partnerships with famous makers like Ibach and now Steinway. Kawai builds the Boston Pianos for Steinway and this endorsement should say enough about their quality of manufacture. This piano was manufactured new in Aug/Sept.1979 and was made in the Hammamatsu factory in Japan. The comparable new model is the 6’6” RX-5 that lists for almost $37,000. Heavier built than the pianos 6’ 1 and smaller, this piano has incredible projection! This piano was obviously well-cared for and not heavily played. It is very rare to find a 7’ Professional Grand in such pristine condition and with such large, warm tone! This is a phenomenal value for the serious player or for a concert hall. Nothing compares with this at this price – ANYWHERE!!!!
This piano is for the professional player or institution and is priced at less then 60% of retail !! Voiced and regulated in the German manner, you will not believe the tone and the concert stage performance.
Very rare item! |

Yamaha G3 serial 3490622.JPG
|
PIANO: Yamaha, model G3, 6'0" Professional Grand & Bench, serial # 3490622
Finish:
Description: Yamaha Pianos, made in Japan, are very well designed instruments and are internationally recognized as world class pianos of exceptional value. This model was made for the professional market as a high quality performance instrument. Built in the Hamamatsu factory in the Spring of 1982, it was purchased later that year by a dealer. Bought from the same dealer in Oregon who went bankrupt, this piano was part of his large unused rental inventory. It appears to be a Metropolitan Opera Loan Piano where Yamaha lends instrument for a short period for promotional reasons. The piano is in impeccable condition and appears to have been hardly used. Having a huge tone, very even touch and sound, we only had to regulate the action and voice the piano in the German manner as it needed little else. This piano is built better than its newer Yamaha cousins due to a less brighter and more traditional European sound than the newer Yamaha Grands. Also, it is unusual to find such a fine performance instrument that has not been heavily used -- clearly an unusual value and pedigree! |

PIANO: Yamaha, model G3, 6'0" Professional Grand & Bench, serial # 858765
Finish: Ebony Polish Finish
Description: Yamaha Pianos, made in Japan, are very well designed instruments and are internationally recognized as world class pianos of exceptional value. This model was made for the professional market as a high quality performance instrument. Designed as a sweeter more elegant sounding model, this piano was built in the Hamamatsu factory in 1969. Bought from a bankrupt dealer in Oregon , this piano was part of his large unused rental inventory. It has been completely rebuilt and refinish in the Yamaha factory using new hammer, action parts, new strings, new pinblock and original soundboard and bridges. The piano is in impeccable condition and appears to have been hardly used. It has a uniquely warm tone, very even touch and sound that is more reminiscent of a Hamburg Steinway than a Yamaha! We only had to regulate the action and voice the piano in the German manner as it needed little else. This piano is built better than its newer Yamaha cousins due to a less brighter and more traditional European sound than the newer Yamaha Grands. This is a unique find in a performance piano that is like brand new at less than half the price of a new one!! |

Knabe 5'8" French Prov. Grand
|
PIANO: Knabe, 5’8”French Provinical Grand Piano/Bench, serial # 108702
Finish: Carved Black Walnut Satin Finish.
Description: Made by one of the most respected quality makers, Knabe was the official piano of the Metropolitan Opera until the 1980's. Favored by musicians and enthusiasts, Knabe was always the best combination of beautiful workmanship, cabinetry and warm tone. This piano is quite rare as it was fashioned of of now almost extinct American Black Walnut and is hand-carved with flowers and other details in the French Provinicial Style. Made in East Rochester, NYin the Fall of 1931, this piano was originally outfitted with an Ampico Reproducing Player System. The player system was removed by the original owner and it was subsequently purchased by a well-to-do lady in White Plains. Upon her death, it was moved to her son's house in Upstate NY. In honor of their mother, the piano was routinely tuned but not played. Finally, it was decided to sell the piano. We opted to restore this piano as it was in immaculate condition with hammers that could not be replaced today. The ivory keys are in great condition and the soundboard is pristine. We have chosen to refinish the cabinet to restore its incredible case to new condition. This is a rare and magnificent example of wood and craftsmanship of the old days which is almost truly extinct today! Note the unique insetting of the French leg into the rim. This is a museum piece.
(The pictures show the piano prior to being refinished.) |

Steinway M 5'7" Grand--1968
|
|
PIANO: Steinway & Sons, model M, 5’7” Grand Piano & bench, serial # 258304
Finish: Mahogany , finished in a walnut stained polished lacquer – rubbed to a high gloss.
Description: Steinway is undoubtedly the piano that all musicians aspire to and some are lucky to own. However, not all Steinway’s are alike. The Steinway factory Golden Years of manufacturing were from the turn of the century through 1929. Some of their finest examples of musicality and craftmanship were built during these years. This piano is from that acknowledged Golden Period of Steinway New York and was built there in 1927. This piano is original and has been completely reconditioned with the exception of the action and cabinet. The action was rebuilt by Rand Reeves, a well-known Upstate NY piano rebuilder, with new hammers, shanks and flanges while retaining the original ivory and ebony keys. The cabinet has been refinished in a medium walnut stain on the mahogany in lacquer rubbed to a high gloss. This piano has a huge tone and produces sound more like its larger brother – the 5’ 10” model L. This is a musicians piano that will grace any living room anywhere. |

Steinway M 5'7" Grand--1920
|
PIANO: Steinway & Sons, model M, 5’7” Grand Piano & bench, serial # 204702 Finish: Dark Mahogany Satin Finish. S O L D
Description: Steinway is undoubtedly the piano that all musicians aspire to and some are lucky to own. However, not all Steinway’s are alike. The Steinway factory Golden Years of manufacturing were from the turn of the century through 1929. Some of their finest examples of musicality and craftsmanship were built during these years. However, finding a piano from this era in truly wonderful condition is very, very rare! This model M, 5’7” Grand was manufactured in the Long Island City factory in November 1920 and is a remarkable example of the high level of craftsmanship and tone. Most pianos hope to sound and play as this piano does and usually they do not. This piano was owned by a 91 year old man who recently sold his house and had to part with his beloved piano as well. The piano was well cared for and was tuned regularly though-out its life. The soundboard is in immaculate condition and the hammers are the famous pre-war Steinway hammers that created the tone favored by Rachmaninoff, Rubenstein and Horowitz. They cannot be replaced for love or money and to find a piano like this that was not ever played heavily is unbelievable! |

Baldwin M Grand serial 146846.…
|
|
PIANO: Baldwin, model M, 5'2" Artist Grand Piano & Matching Duet Bench, serial # 146848
Finish: Select Honduras Mahogany in Lacquer Finish
Description: Famous for their dominance in the American Piano market, Baldwin has been the # 1 selling American piano through the late '90's. This piano, made in Cincinnati, OH in the Spring of 1960, is in immaculate condition having had sparing use. It was owned by a local piano teacher who purchase the piano new on November 11, 1960. Having taught lessons on another piano, she save the Baldwin for her own personal use. However, she became ill and was not able to play on her beloved Baldwin as she had wished. This piano was immaculately cared for and it shows like new! For many years, Baldwin Artist Grands, the upper line of Baldwin pianos, have been renowned as a very sturdy and sought after piano for school and institutional use. Known for its warm sound, Baldwin Artist Grands have a very large tone for their size and are built very beautifully in this particular period. This piano is virtually the finest Baldwin Grand I have ever encountered!!! Rich and sonorous, it has a huge bass and a very beautiful treble with a buttery smooth, responsive action. Know for their beautiful cabinetry, this select mahogany case is especially gorgeous and was incredibly well-maintained. It has been completely reconditioned with the action regulated to concert standards and the hammers voiced in the German manner. This is a fabulous find in a grand piano made by an heirloom manufacturer. This is a very rare opportunity to own a Baldwin Grand in like new condition!!! |

Mason & Hamlin 5’8" Grand-1923…
|
|
PIANO: Mason & Hamlin, model A, 5’8” Grand Piano & Bench, serial # 31835
Finish: Ebony Satin Finish in rubbed lacquer. S O L D
Description: Many musicians prefer the broad singing tone of the Boston-built Mason & Hamlin over the Steinway piano. This Grand Piano built in the famous Boston factory in 1923 and is the example of Mason & Hamlin’s Golden Age. After the factory was moved in the late ’20’s, Mason & Hamlin lost a great degree of its value due to increasingly poorer quality of execution. This piano was kept by an older woman piano teacher -- who lived alone. She adored the instrument and her 5 cats. When she died, her nephew inherited the piano, kept it for his children and then finally offered up for sale. The cabinet had been refinished 20+ years ago and new key-tops were installed as well. She also installed heavy custom made casters. We opted to accept the condition of the cabinet, acceptable but noticeably used, and the condition of the superstructure (soundboard, pinblock, strings, etc.) and chose to recondition the action and reset tuning pins to insure tuning stability. When we replaced the #4 bass string, we discovered that the scale design of this model A is ‘heavier’ in the bass specifications than most A’s of this period – resulting in a deeper richer bass! The original hammers were resurfaced and voiced and the action was reconditioned and regulated. This piano is truly a musician’s piano and is larger in tone than any comparable Steinway. We have chosen not to completely rebuild this piano to offer a truly remarkable value price. |

Hardman Fr. Prov 5' Grand.JPG
|
PIANO: Hardman, 5'0" Baby Grand & Bench, serial # 96360
Finish: French Provinical Hand-Carved Walnut in high-gloss lacquer finish
Description: This unique, museum piece piano was built in New York in November/December 1936 and is a true example of the art of elaborate furniture design. Hardman is a well known New York manufacturer who specialized in fine quality grand pianos and high styled vertical pianos for the finest homes in the East. Known for their cabinet designs, art cases and special edition pianos, this model is a limited production instrument that was designed for the elegant executive New York City townhouse. Small in stature but built like a tank, this piano is a gem to behold. The instrument was rebuilt in Long Island in the 1980's with new strings, new tuning pins, new dampers, shimmed and bleached soundboard, new bridge caps, original action and hammers and refinished cabinet and plate. This piano was a mother's beloved instrument that was handed down to the daughter who is now downsizing and must part with the family heirloom. It is very rare and not likely to be seen again as most of the production is still kept closely guarded by discriminating families or was destroyed by poor maintenance and climate. |

PIANO: Chickering, 5’6” Parlor Grand Piano & new bench, serial # 96961
Finish: Mahogany Satin Finish.
Description: Jonas Chickering is the father of the American Piano industry and his Boston factory was renowned for its high quality and musicality. Highly desired, Chickering pianos have graced the homes of many American musicians and dignitaries including Abraham Lincoln. This piano was manufactured in the Boston facility in 1908 and is a lovely example of their art including the Prince of Wales fluted legs. It is a true period piece and is a real value. This piano is indeed quite playable but will require rebuilding within the next 10 years or so. We have only regulated the action to make the piano more playable as well as reset tuning pins. This piano is offered in its present condition for the person who wants a bona fide period piece that they can refinish to their specifications. Its price is far below market value even for an unplayable Chickering!
UPDATE: This piano is being refinished and will receive a high lustre lacquer finish that will highlight the grain of the mahogany. This will be a showpiece !! |

With features like a full perimeter plate, normally found in high-end instruments like Mason & Hamlin, the tone of this piano is superior for its size. Manufactured in late 1925, this wonderful instrument was well cared for and has original hammers, strings and soundboard. This is another fine value as this piano has such high end qualities that cannot be duplicated today without tremendous expense for its small size. |

Yamaha M304T.JPG
|
|
PIANO: Yamaha, model M-304, 43.5” Console and Bench, serial # T105259
Finish: Satin American Walnut Finish.
Description: Yamaha Pianos, made in Japan, are very well designed instruments and present a very good value in today’s market. This Bill Faber designed console was mad for the home market. This piano was built in the Thomaston, GA. factory in the Summer of 1987. It is better than what is being made today in Thomaston since it was made in Japan and assembled in the USA—true Japanese Quality!! This piano was purchased new by a GE engineer for his children from Clark Music. The children did not continue with their lessons so it was hardly used and yet it was continually maintained by Camille Morin, RPT. This Yamaha piano is built better than its newer Yamaha cousins now manufactured in the factory in Indonesia or China. Most used Japanese pianos available are ‘grey market’ instruments that are made for the Pacific Rim market and not seasoned for North America. But this piano is made for North America and its wood is seasoned for our climate – insuring its durability. This is a high performance console that is highly desired due to warm, expressive tone and action at an unbeatable price. A rare find!! |

Not having been played much, the piano has been just sitting in their living room until it was recently sold as they are moving. It is an uncommon value due to the fact it is virtually new and in immaculate condition. Martin Bros. 39" Oak Console
|
PIANO: Martin Bros. 39” Console Piano & Bench, serial # 58745
Finish: Italian Provincial Walnut in Satin Lacquer Finish.
Description: Martin Bros. was one of the many Boston manufacturers in the early part of this century. They stopped making pianos in the late 1920’s. The name was not used for many years and then was resurrected by a piano company to use for small home console pianos in the 1970’s and 80’s. This piano was purchased new by a local family whose children did not use the piano much. It was housed in the basement family room since its purchase and was used more as a bookcase than anything else. The piano was hardly ever played and is virtually like new. It is a perfect entry-level piano for the beginner or intermediate player. This 39” piano was ‘billed’ as a console due to its size (3” larger then most spinets) but it has a drop action (spinet type) installed in it. It is very responsive and has a large tone for its size. These pianos were also sold with the guarantee that the soundboard would never crack. A very good value!
