Description: Martin Bros. was one of the many Boston manufacturers in the early part of this century. They stopped making pianos in the late 1920’s.  The name was not used for many years and then was resurrected by a piano company to use for small home console pianos in the 1970’s and 80’s. This piano was purchased new by a local family whose children did not use the piano much.  It was housed in the basement family room since its purchase and was used more as a bookcase than anything else.  The piano was hardly ever played and is virtually like new.  It is a perfect entry level piano for the beginner or intermediate player.  This 39” piano was ‘billed’ as a console due to its size (3” larger then most spinets) but it has a drop action (spinet type)  installed in it.  It is very responsive and has a large tone for its size.  These pianos were also sold with the guarantee that the soundboard would never crack.  A very good value!

Baldwin Acrosonic 36” Sheraton Walnut Spinet

Description: Famous for their dominance in the American Vertical Piano market, Baldwin has been the #1 selling American piano through the late 90’s.  This piano, made in Cincinnati, OHin February 1957,  is in immaculate condition having had little use.  It was bought new and owned by a woman in Delmar and resided proudly in her formal living room. It has been completely reconditioned including action regulated and hammers voiced.  The famous Acrosonic model from an era where  These pianos are noted for holding a tune remarkably and for delivering high quality tone for a piano this size.

This is a fabulous find in a value piano made by an heirloom manufacturer.  This is an uncommon find!!!

Whitney (by Kimball) 36” Spinet Piano

Description: Kimball was considered America’s Home Piano Company for many years – making beautiful cabinets and sturdy pianos.  This piano was made in French Lick, Indiana in March/April of 1964.  This piano was purchased new by a family in Warsaw, NY whose children did not use the piano much. The piano was given to the daughter for her child and was never played either.  Since it had little use, the piano is has very little wear.  Kimball used an inferior adjustment part for the capstan adjustment that we chose to change to new Baldwin parts for ease of regulation. It is a perfect entry level piano for the beginner or intermediate player. It is very responsive and has a large tone for its size.  This piano is no different than buying a new piano and is perfect furniture for the discerning home while being most affordable.

Description:  One of the world’s most highly prized pianos,  Bechstein is the renowned builder to the world’s most famous musicians and composers and is one of the most expensive pianos in the world.  Preferred by some of the world’s most famous musicians like Debussy, Liszt, Busoni, Gieseking, Ravel, and more, Bechstein has always had a devoted following. This piano was built in mid 1899 and was purchased and rebuilt by a J.B. Cox of McLean, Virginia in the 1981.  The piano is a 6’7” model V with turned legs and a very unique sound. It was rebuilt by Roger Quirk of Virginia shortly after purchase and maintained by Owen Pratt, RPT from Falls Church,VA.  The piano was then sold to Welsh opera singer, Cyril Lloyd who moved from Virginia to Granville, NY. The piano is completely reconditioned and is playing beautifully evidencing the classic early 20th century Bechstein sound.  Note the original ivory key-tops which have been banned since 1987. We have priced this rare piano at a once in a lifetime value.

Description:  Steinway is undoubtedly the piano that all musicians aspire to and some are lucky to own.   This model M, 5’7” Grand was manufactured in the Long Island City factory in February 1968 and is a remarkable example of pianos from the era when CBS owned the company.  This piano was owned by a manwho has now passed andhis daughter has decided to part with his beloved piano as well.  The piano was well cared for and was tuned regularly throughout its life.  The soundboard is in immaculate condition although there are typical Steinway pressure ridges due to Steinway soundboard tension. The balance of the piano is in very good condition having been played sporadically throughout its life.  The cabinet has seen more wear than the piano and the fallboard was obviously refinished duringits lifetime—probably some 20 years ago.   The piano is equipped with the Steinway Accelerated Permafree™ Action and is extremely responsive.  It is rare to find a newer Steinway M in this kind of musical condition and with such great power.  A rare find!

Description:    From a fine musician who loved this piano in Delmar, this piano was hand-selected in Steinway Hall in NYC.   Made in New York in early 1966, this instrument was exceptionallywell maintained and the original soundboard is immaculate. Replete with famous Steinway features like Diaphramatic Soundboard, Hexagrip Maple Pinblock, Accelerated action with Permafree bushings, this piano will last easily for 100 years if well-maintained. The piano is original and has been completely reconditioned to concert-level performance. The Ebonized finish has been hand-rubbed to its original sheen.  This piano has a beautiful tone and has a treble much like the 9’ Concert Grand! In June of 2000, Rand Reeves, noted rebuilder, installed new Nu-tone English Hammers and Tokiwa shanks and flanges. It is generally agreed that these parts are superior to New York Steinway OEM parts. This piano had very little playing on the new hammers and is truly a beautiful sounding and playing piano—a true musician’s instrument!

Description:  Yamaha Pianos, made in Japan, are very well designed instruments and present a very good value in today’s market.  This model was made for the home market as one of the first performance consoles imported.  This piano was built in the Hamamatsu factory in the March of 1982 and was purchased that year by the owner at Clark Music.  The owner took very good care of the piano (regular service by Michael Lamkin, RPT) and her children did not continue with lessons.  Not having been played much,  the piano has been sitting in their living room and finally was sold as they are moving.  It is an uncommon value due to the fact it is virtually new and in immaculate condition.  The piano is built better than its newer Yamaha cousins now manufactured in the factory in Indonesia or China.  Most used Japanese pianos available are ‘grey market’ instruments that are made for the Pacific Rim market and not seasoned for North America.  But this piano is made for North America and its wood is seasoned for our climate – insuring its durability.  This is a high performance console that is highly desired due to phenomenal tone and action. A very, very rare find!!

Description:  Yamaha Pianos, made in Japan, are very well designed instruments and present a very good value in today’s market.  This Bill Faber designed studio console was made for the upscale home market.  This piano was built in the Thomaston, GA. factory in the Summer of 2002.  This piano, designed to provide studio upright performance in a high end designer cabinet,  was purchased new by a husband for his wife. This model was selected because it is from the upper line of high designer cabinets and has many fine furniture features like one piece doweled legs. This piano came to us as product of a divorce.   This Yamaha piano is built better than its newer Yamaha cousins now manufactured in the factory in Indonesia or China.  Most used Japanese pianos available are ‘grey market’ instruments that are made for the Pacific Rim market and not seasoned for North America.  But this piano is made for North America and its wood is seasoned for our climate – insuring its durability.  This is a high performance studio console that is highly desired due to warm, expressive tone and action at an unbeatable price. Description: Story & Clark is a well-known piano maker for the home.  Most of their pianos were very sturdily built and featured fantastic cabinets.  This piano is quite remarkable because it is one of the last roll player models made by Classic Player Piano Corporation made in late 2002 in Seneca, PA. Purchased on 12/22/2002 by noted Plattsburgh Piano Technician/Player Specialist Art Pierce as a special gift to his son and his family. Classic Player, founded by Ed Keefe and his wife, built custom player pianos under their name and for Baldwin and Wurlitzer. Using Baldwin back assemblies and actions, they built the rest of the player pianos with the finest materials available. Ed, the perfectionist, was unhappy with Baldwin’s quality in their back assemblies so, in 1992, began building their own back assembly utilizing the famous Story & Clark studio upright design.  Improving the design with agraffes in the bass for more clarity and heavier back construction, he succeeded in creating a quality instrument.  This is the finest model they ever made with hand carved Griffon Legs in Oak and lighted Stained Glass Panels.  This piano is immaculate as Mr. Pierce, before he died, lovingly put in extra work into the instrument to maximize its performance.  Hardly played, this piano is like new and is a rare, rare find!!!

Description:  Steinway is undoubtedly the piano that all musicians aspire to and some are lucky to own.  However, not all Steinway’s are alike.  The Steinway factory Golden Years of manufacturing were from the turn of the century through1929.  Some of their finest examples of musicality and craftsmanship were built during these years.  However, finding a piano from this era in truly wonderful condition is very very rare!  This model M, 5’7” Grand was manufactured in the Long Island City factory in November 1920 and is a remarkable example of the high level of craftsmanship and tone.  Most pianos hope to sound and play as this piano does and usually they do not.  This piano was owned by a 91 year old man who recently sold his house and had to part with his beloved piano as well.  The piano was well cared for and was tuned regularly throughout its life.  The soundboard is in immaculate condition and the hammers are the famous pre-war Steinway hammers that created the tone favored by Rachmaninoff, Rubenstein and Horowitz.  They can not be replaced for love or money and to find a piano like this that was not ever played heavily is unbelievable!

Description: Sohmer & Co. is the only high quality manufacturer that truly competed with Steinway in quality in this country.  Founded in 1872 by Hugo Sohmer,   Sohmer & Co. produced both the highest quality verticals and grands in Long Island City – across the bay from Steinway & Sons. Hugo Sohmer was famous for his meticulous attention to detail and for his insistence on procuring the finest materials available.  He routinely would reject lumber in his factory if it did not come up to his strict standards!  Noted for their opulent cabinetry and solid core cabinets,  Sohmer was the piano of the upper class executive home who wanted more elegant cabinets than available at Steinway & Sons.  This piano was made the Spring of 1987 in the Long Island City factory and was originally purchased in Long Island.  Purchased new in 1987 at K Music in Utica NY, this piano has all Sohmer quality features such as: Quarter Sawn Hard Rock Maple Pinblock, Quarter Sawn Adirondack Spruce Soundboard, Extra Heavy Hard Rock Maple Back Posts and Pratt Read Premium Action.  This piano has a huge tone and responsive action normally found in a Studio Upright. A rare find--this is a high-end Steinway-class piano!!

Description: Famous for their cabinets andbeing the #1 American home piano, Wurlitzer has been the best selling American piano through the late 80’s.  This piano, made in DeKalb, Illinois, in 1930,  is as example of Wurlitzer’s pre-WWII fascination with unique cabinet designs.  This Art Case Grand, dubbed the “Arabian Nights” model, harkens back to the Moorish cabinet style that was popular and very exotic prior to WWII.  This piano was purchased by the 2nd owner, after it had been completely rebuilt in Atlanta, GA.  It receivednew pinblock, strings, dampers, shimmed soundboard, reconditioned action, new pearlized keytops and refinishing.  The original piano had ivory which came off prior to rebuilding so the rebuilder took extra care to cover the keys with very special, rare pearlized material.  We reconditioned this piano to bring it to a much higher level of performance than it ever had before.  A very rare find !!!

Description: Yamaha is known for supplying the world’s universities and conservatories with the U series Professional Upright Piano as the quintessential practice room piano. This is the famous UX/WX3 model, that was the highest grade of performance upright piano Yamaha made.  Based on the an 52” German Scale Design, the back of this piano is unique in that the posts are a radial designed X-back which provides double the stability and more power. Made in early 1980, this piano appears to have been hardly used.  It is inimmaculate condition and has a huge tone and very even touch and sound.  We only had to regulate the action andvoice the hammers as it needed little else.  Most Yamaha professional uprights sold used are usually heavily used and most generally tired.  Note the gold oval plaque on the inside at the treble denoting a special edition instrument—indicating special high performance voicing/regulation (an option at purchase). This is another rarity.   The Yamaha UX is the highest grade of Yamaha designed to compete with the fine German pianos and is the true choice of most fine pianists for their limited space studios !!!

Description:  This unique, museum piece piano was built in New York in November/December 1936 and is a true example of the art of elaborate furniture design.   Hardman is a well known New York manufacturer who specialized in fine quality grand pianos and high styled vertical pianos for the finest homes in East.  Known for their cabinet designs, art cases and special edition pianos,  this model is a limited production instrument that was designed for the elegant executive New York City townhouse.  Small in stature but built like a tank,  this piano is a gem to behold. This piano was rebuilt in Long Island in the 1980’s with new strings, new tuning pins, new dampers, shimmed and bleached soundboard, new bridge caps, original action and hammers and refinished cabinet and plate. This piano was a mother’s beloved instrument that was handed down to the daughter who is now downsizing and must part with the family heirloom. It is very rare and not likely to be seen again as most of the production is still kept closely guarded by discriminating families or was destroyed at the end of its life.

Description:  Yamaha Pianos, made in Japan, are very well designed instruments and are internationally recognized as world class pianos of exceptional value.  This model was made for the professional market as a high quality performance instrument.  Designed to be a sweeter elegant sounding model, this piano was built in the Hamamatsu factory in 1969.  Bought from a bankrupt dealer in Oregon, this piano was part of his unused rental inventory. It has been completely rebuilt and refinished with factory hammers and parts, new strings, new pinblock and original soundboard and bridges.  This piano appears to have been hardly used.  It has a uniquely warm tone and very even touch and sound.  We only had to regulate the action and voice the hammers as it needed little else.  The piano is built better than its newer Yamaha cousins due to a less brighter and more traditional European sound than the newer Yamaha Grands. This is a unique find in a fine piano that is like brand new at less than half the price of a new one!
